When Germany's "fifth season" begins, nobody needs a drink with twelve ingredients and bar-spoon choreography. You need one that's mixed fast, works for a crowd, and still actually tastes of something. Meet the Straßenfeger ("street sweeper") – named after what follows the carnival parade, and after what it does to tired revellers.

The idea is as simple as it is honest: our oak-cask-matured Weizenkorn – a traditional German wheat spirit, distilled the old way for generations – meets the Mediterranean sunshine of our Orancello, topped with lemon soda for a sparkling highball. Korn and orange? Sounds unusual, works like carnival itself: tradition meets confetti.

The recipe

Difficulty: effortless · Time: 2 minutes · Occasion: carnival, Mardi Gras, any party with music above 120 bpm

Ingredients

Method

  1. Fill a highball glass to the top with ice.
  2. Pour in Korn and Orancello.
  3. Top with lemon soda, give it a quick stir – Alaaf!

For the whole crew: Straßenfeger punch

For 10 glasses: stir 0.4 l Weizenkorn, 0.4 l Orancello and 0.6 l lemon soda in a large jug with plenty of ice, add orange and lemon slices. Serve straight after the parade – no shaker, no stress, no queue in the kitchen.

The bottles behind it

Krugmann Weizenkorn matures in oak casks and is still traditionally distilled – with almost 160 years of distilling history in Meinerzhagen behind it. The Orancello adds the velvety aroma of sun-ripened orange peel. Together they're the best of two worlds.

FAQ

Which lemon soda works best?

One with a real citrus note and not too much sweetness – cloudy lemonades add extra freshness. Prefer it drier? Use half soda water, half lemon soda.

Can I prep the Straßenfeger in advance?

Yes: pre-mix Korn and Orancello 1:1 and keep chilled. Add soda and ice only when serving so the fizz pops.

What does "Straßenfeger" actually mean?

In German TV slang, a Straßenfeger was a show so popular it swept the streets empty. Our Straßenfeger flips the principle: it belongs where the streets are full.
